depression.jpgI'm extremely fortunate to have never struggled with a disease that has plagued a number of my friends: depression. Nonetheless, as a psychology minor in university, I've always tried to understand it, and I've always tried to do what I can to help, but it's hard to know what someone is going through unless you've experienced it firsthand. I came across this article this morning, written by a columnist in New Orleans about his battle with depression in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. He articulates his struggle quite well and really gave me a lot of insight into the day-to-day horror and hopelessness of someone living with depression. Check out the article if you get a chance; it's long but worth it.
